Introducing CSI to Colleagues
Dear Doctor,
Allow me to introduce Community Surgery Ireland (CSI) to you.
We are a group of GPs from all over Ireland who provide a convenient, safe and cost effective alternative to hospital referral for patients who require skin, nail and scalp lesion diagnosis and surgical procedures including:
-
Dermoscopy; lesion assessment; lesion biopsy; lesion excision
-
Skin cancer (non-melanoma) excision or other treatment
-
Surgery to ingrown or dystrophic nails
-
Excision of lipoma
-
Excision of warts, verruca, cysts, skin tags, pyogenic granuloma, naevi for functional or cosmetic purposes.

-
Management of seborrhoeic and actinic keratosis.
We are especially keen to accelerate care for patients with malignant and pre-malignant skin lesions. We can help in the prompt triage and treatment, as appropriate, of pigmented and non-pigmented lesions. We comply with the National Cancer Control Programme guidelines relating to suspected melanoma.
CSI welcomes referrals from our GP colleagues. We are also happy to receive informal referrals directly at our clinics through reception or via our individual practice websites, should you be willing to direct your patients to make contact. We will provide a discharge letter to any formal or informal referral.
We are also committed to the thorough follow-up of patients for removal of sutures, dealing with any complications or, in the case of skin cancer, where periodic reviews are warranted. We shall not permit referred patients to register with our practices.
Community surgery services are not covered under the GMS scheme. Private health insurance companies such as VHI, LAYA, Irish Life, GMA and ESB may pay a surgical fee for some procedures we provide but our members may, in addition, charge a consultation fee and a fee for materials and the treatment room facility.
For further information on referral arrangements please see inidvidual providers listed on this site.
Yours sincerely,
